What are Preditechs?

Preditech: predictability + technology.
A startup category defined by what it delivers, not what it uses.

"Preditech" is a neologism coined by Imma Consult — a contraction of predictability and technology. It designates startups whose core value proposition is predictability as a product: not as an auxiliary feature, not as a marketing differentiator, but as the primary delivery for which the client pays.

"A Preditech doesn't use technology to predict — it exists because it predicts. The distinction is not semantic: it defines the business model, product architecture and success criteria."

— Imma Consult, 2026

The 3 Qualifying Capabilities — Exhaustive and Mandatory

To be classified as a Preditech, a startup must demonstrate verifiable performance in at least one of the three capabilities below. The absence of any of them is an automatic ineligibility criterion.

01Capability 1 · Anticipation

Anticipation

Identifying and understanding emerging signals and trends before their widespread market manifestation. Operating in the early detection zone of weak signals to generate proactive value.

weak signalsscenariostrendsblind spotshorizon
Does the startup detect and translate into product or service what is not yet articulated demand?

When to use

Use when the risk is being surprised (blind spots) and the question is "what could change the game?". Works well when there is no reliable historical series or when the game is changing.

02Capability 2 · Projection

Projection

Modeling and simulating different possible futures from data, hypotheses and patterns. Exploring potential trajectories to support strategic planning in uncertain environments.

simulationscenarioswhat if?trajectoriessensitivity
Does the startup build models that allow the client to navigate alternative futures, not just the most likely one?

When to use

Use when the decision involves betting or planning and you need to compare routes ("if I do A vs B, what happens?"). It bridges uncertainty and certainty: you assume hypotheses, change variables and see sensitivities.

03Capability 3 · Prediction

Prediction

Estimating with reasonable confidence the occurrence of specific events based on historical patterns and current data. Producing measurable outputs of probability or quantitative projection.

forecastprobabilityaccuracyhistorical patternsoptimization
Does the startup deliver actionable and verifiable estimates about what will happen, with trackable accuracy?

When to use

Use when the decision involves execution or optimization (quantity, timing, probability, SLA) and you can measure error/accuracy. Depends on pattern stability — when the past still explains the future well.

The uncertainty spectrum

The three capabilities are not mutually exclusive — they form a continuous spectrum from exploring the unknown to estimating the known.

The three capabilities in retail

01

Anticipation

Noticing weak signals of behavioral change — new habits, micro-communities, emerging purchase formats — before they become dominant trends. The startup delivers signal radars and scenario reports so the retailer can position itself before competitors.

Quick diagnosis: which capability to use?

Use Anticipation

Quick Diagnosis

Is my startup a Preditech?

Answer 5 questions to verify whether your startup meets the basic eligibility criteria of PIP 2026. This diagnosis does not replace the formal evaluation of the Technical Committee.

Anticipation

Does your startup offer a product or service based on early detection of emerging trends or weak signals?

Projection

Does your startup build models that allow the client to navigate alternative futures — not just linear forecasts?

Prediction

Does your startup deliver measurable and verifiable outputs on probability or projection of future events?

Organizational

Is your startup formally incorporated (active CNPJ or LATAM equivalent) with at least 6 months of operation?

Stage

Does your startup have a functional MVP, advanced prototype or demonstrable solution in production?

The 5 Fundamental Pillars

What defines a mature Preditech

The five pillars are evaluated by the Preditech Assessment Scorecard (SAP) with distinct weights. They are not checklist requirements — they are the essence of the operation and the source of competitive differentiation.

Pillar 1 · Weight 30%

Predictive Technology Core

The Predictive Technology Core is the heart of a Preditech. Predictive technology is not a means — it is the very essence of what it offers. Essential components include Machine Learning, AI, Deep Learning, NLP and MLOps and DataOps infrastructure for sustainable production.
